Blancpain is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer renowned for its dedication to tradition and innovation. The company has a history of complicated mechanical watch manufacture dating to 1735 but is best known for its Fifty Fathoms watch created in 1953. The legendary timepiece was developed on request of two French military offices, Captain "Bob" Maloubier and Lieutenant Claude Riffaud who turned to Blancpain after finding no existing watch which could withstand extreme conditions an elite unit of "Combat Divers" meet during its underwater mission. The Manufacture created the famous Fifty Fathoms, a masterpiece which came to be known as the archetypal diver's watch reputable for its reliability, sturdiness and water resistance to 50 fathoms (91,45 meters or 300 feet) that gave the watch its name. In 1989, Blancpain introduced the thinnest flying tourbillon on the world notable for small carriage that spins on its axis on a single side without any supporting bridge appearing like floating in space. The new Blancpain Fifty Fathom Tourbillon model is available in red gold and white gold, and is crowned by large round opening revealing the tourbillon which is located at 12 o'clock and creates an outstanding contrast to the sporty style of the hands, hour-markers and the bezel. The Fifty Fathom Tourbillon is the only model of the new Fifty Fathom collection with a sapphire crystal case-back which enables the view of the 238-part movement and is water resistant to 300 meters (924 feet). The case with diameter 45 millimeters is available in red gold and white gold version and is 14,74 millimeters thick. The spectacular men's watch is powered by self-winding calibre 25A movement and has 29 jewels. It has a 8-day power reserve (displayed at 6 o'clock) eliminating the need of daily winding. Like the original Fifty Fathom, the Fifty Tourbillon has a black dial and bezel with oversized and luminescent hour-markers providing optimal readability in the most extreme conditions. The Fifty Fathom Tourbillon also features the key element of the Fifty Fathom collection - the unidirectional rotating bezel with notched profile which facilitates handling. Both the red gold and white gold version are available with fabric, satin and sail-canvas strap. The Fifty Fathom Tourbillon is a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, beauty and sturdiness as well as elegance and convenience. The amazing timepiece reveals luxury and art of fine watchmaking in every detail but features all the reliability sturdiness and water resistance of the legendary Fifty Fathom that made it one of the most reputed watches among special forces all over the world.
