Generally speaking a chronograph is a watch that not only shows the day time but also can keep track of specific time intervals via independent hands, dials or even sub-dials depending on the complications. Do not misinterpret the chronograph for a chronometer, a chronometer is a chronograph watch that successfully passed through out a series of the COSC - acronym for Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute -, a watch which can coupe with the Swiss Standard will probably display an "officially Certified Chronometer" label. Basically you can own a chronograph watch but, if it´s a cheap one, wont probably a chronometer. The image bellow displays a wonderful Breitling Superocean Chronograph.
